Hello readers,
Welcome to Eco Design Theory - a place to mold eco conscious and biophilic design. Here you will find nature inspired creations that are curated with recycling and reusing in mind. Our goal is to divert items that would be going to landfills and repurpose them to be enjoyed in your home or garden. We also aim to promote items made out of materials that are not detrimental to the environment - like glass and ceramics. Ultimately we strive to protect the end user - Mother Nature - from what we manufactured. That is because everything manufactured on an assembly line will at some point become waste in a landfill. If we can reduce the impact of our products by revitalizing them or making them degradable in the environment or easier to recycle, the less impact they will have. Small choices lead to big change.
Why biophilic? Biophilia is a term coined by German-American psychoanalyst Erich Fromm. In his book “The Anatomy of Human Destructiveness,” Fromm describes biophilia as “the passionate love of life and of all that is alive.” Our mentality aligns with this belief, we love all aspects of Nature, including ourselves - human kind. And what better way to take care of human kind than to take care of the environment we live, breathe, and exist in.
Spring is a great time to embrace these ideals and create new habits that align with biophilic living. One way to adopt these habits in your everyday life is by recycling existing items around the home. This can include reusing old T-shirts to use as pot hangers - follow the link to find some how-to’s - or reusing old wood scraps to create a plant plaque. By embracing all things that Spring encompasses - renewal, rebirth and new life - we can relieve some of the pressure we put on Mother Nature to handle our waste.
